About Jack Harlan

Jack Harlan is a retired U.S. Army tanker turned writer.

After twenty years of service — including multiple combat deployments — he now writes two kinds of things:

Serious work
Historical and cultural analysis, especially about the Late Roman Republic, the rise of permanent expert classes, and the tensions in modern American life.

Fiction
Pulp-style serials, most notably the ongoing Bougie Apocalypse series — a weird blend of dark humor, self-reliance, and competence porn in a post-apocalyptic setting.

He lives somewhere in the South with his wife, far too many books, an unhealthy love of good coffee, and proper cast iron cooking.

When he’s not writing, he’s usually thinking about writing… or annoying his wife with obscure historical references.
