My friend Mave always liked this tune. It has
countless recorded versions but the song never really came together
until now. It is one of those tunes that I never gave up on because
I always liked the lyrics. I re-arranged the melody and re-worked
the lyrics while in my friend Karen’s apartment in Vancouver
between watching episodes of Star Wars one Sunday. I think it’s
a nice little tune about internal awakening. Mike and I got this
one down pretty quick and I managed to really gain a new perspective
on the song. He said that the ‘shaved her hair off’
lyric reminded him of Brittany Spears.
For each verse there is a different situation. In the first I had
an idea for soldiers leaving the corporate war. The second became
an image of a California pop star, who left the whole thing to dance
with the natives. The third verse is about a business man tired
of climbing the corporate ladder and realizing that the secret to
hapiness is within him. After working in the funeral industry for
so many years I have come to realize that no matter how rich, poor,
successful or un-successful you were, everybody ends up on the same
table. I hope you like it Mave.

“Numerous
artists have been tagged as “The Next Dylan”, and almost
have many been tapped as heirs to U2. They rarely amount to much. Fortunately,
Scintilla suggests that Harlan not only has the talent to wear such
a mantle well, but the potential to exceed the labels.” Splendid/Chicago
